A Letter from the Executive Director

Dear Friend of Neighborhood Homework House,

 

I’m sitting at my desk as I write this, having just read the responses to our application’s question: “Why do you want to enroll in our program?”

 

“I would like my son to get tutoring to catch up to his grade level.”

 

“Her grandma is not able to help her granddaughter with homework. She is not comfortable with technology, but wants her granddaughter to excel academically.”

 

“My child could really use the help and support your services offer. Azusa High highly recommends your organization.”

 

These are real quotes, from loving parents deeply invested in their children’s future and seeking the resources to make it happen. This is where Neighborhood Homework House fills the gap.

 

Our after-school support provides a vital service to the community. In fact, the need is so great that as of the date of this letter, we are already on a waiting list for students wanting to use the services of NHH, and we are trying our best to meet those needs and get them enrolled as soon as possible.

I began attending Homework House in 3rd grade and remained involved throughout my high school years. During my time with the program, I had many meaningful experiences hat helped me grow both personally and academically. Homework House provided me with a supportive environment, lifetime mentors,

and opportunities to give back to my community, all of which have had a lastingimpact on my life.

Here's why that's urgent: Neighborhood Homework House lost a major source of federal funding this year, right as requests like these are at an all-time high. Here's what that funding loss means in real terms: fewer tutoring slots, fewer resources to onboard new volunteers, and less individualized support for students who depend on it.
