Tutor/Mentors
As a tutor and mentor at the Homework House, you have a tremendous impact on the academic, social, and spiritual development of the children of Azusa. Your weekly interactions give them a reason to believe in themselves and pursue their education, making a powerful, lifelong imprint on their hearts and minds. Between September and May, we need tutors who can provide one-on-one homework assistance to the same student(s) one to two times each week (increments of 1-1½ hours each). Tutors choose tutoring sessions based on their availability and desired age group.
Skills: Tutors must have a high school education or equivalent (currently enrolled high school students considered with submission of academic records). Spanish proficiency is beneficial but not required if working with students in grades Kindergarten to 1st.
Requirements:
- Tutors must commit to one full academic year tutoring one or more sessions, or to one full academic semester tutoring two or more sessions.
- Minimum age requirement of 16.
- Tutors working with our high school students must specialize in a single-subject.
- All academic year tutors are required to complete an online orientation, attend an on-site training session, and be fingerprinted (cost: $20, required for adults 18+ only).
Please click here to get started on our online orientation and application. Our orientation will brief you on how Our Neighborhood Homework House began, how it is run, and how it impacts the community of Azusa. Please print out required forms at end of the orientation. Thank you for your interest!

Due to the end of college semesters, a majority of our academic tutors leave at the end of November and April. This allows an "Occasional Angel" to swoop in and fill those shoes during the months of December and May.
Requirements: To be an Occasional Angel, find one or more sessions in which you can tutor on a one-time or weekly basis. Then fill out our Interest Form with your contact information and availability to get started.
During the summer, we partner with local churches, city pool, library, and a semi-pro soccer team to provide a day camp with our students daily during the month of July. Volunteers help monitor and connect with small groups of students, promote group unity, and encourage their groups towards positive behavior and active participation. This is a great opportunity to mentor and provide companionship to a child.
Requirements:
- All volunteers are required to complete our online orientation, be fingerprinted (cost: $20, required for adults 18+ only), and attend our summer orientation in June.
- We are looking for volunteers that don't mind running around and getting a little wet!
- Minimum age requirement of 16.
